Our Shopping Trip to the Crystal Factories

Created by Ann one year ago

I’d like to share just one of many delightful memories I have of Pam. When were living in Oberammergau and I worked as a tour guide, I organized a NATO/Oberammergau ladies bus tour of crystal/porcelain factories in eastern  West Germany. We left Oberammergau at 4 AM so that we would be at the first factory when it opened at 8 AM. We were making good time with most of the ladies snoozing in their seats. As I sat in my tour guide seat, I was suddenly shocked to see a wheel rolling down the autobahn in front of us. Yes, we had lost a wheel. Fortunately, the traffic was not heavy at 5 AM. As the driver walked down the road to the nearest exit for help, we all vacated the bus for safety in the event the bus was hit. A bus full of ladies stood shivering outside at 5 AM on a chilly October morning. Suddenly Pam came to the rescue. She reached into a satchel she was carrying and out came a bottle of Schnapps and a sleeve of plastic shot glasses. This was meant for a celebratory drink after dinner at our hotel but instead, it warded off the chill we were feeling. Pam was a kind, generous lady with just a touch of the devil in her. EJ and I  will miss her so much as we have missed her equally wonderful husband, Peter. With love, Ann Lewis
